| Title: | Early literacy initiative review [2001] | |
| Description: | The Early Literacy Initiative (ELI) was launched in spring 1998 providing about $57 million across three school years: 1998-99, 1999-2000 and 2000-01. This initiative was designed to support the development of early literacy programs by school authorities. This review will analyze strategies employed as well as results achieved. The evaluation described in this document was conducted between May and November 2000 and involved the following activities: a review of relevant literature, a survey sent to a 25% sample of schools offering Grades ECS, 1 and/or 2, two conferences of jurisdiction-based early literacy coordinators, a review of Alberta Initiative for School Improvement (AISI) projects related to literacy,a review of achievement test results and an analysis and reporting on the results of the above activities. | |
