WorldSkills Calgary 2009 featured about 900 students and apprentices from 51 countries/regions competing in 45 trades and technology skill categories such as baking, carpentry and website development. 

Alberta's WorldSkills Equipment Legacy will upgrade trades and technology classrooms and labs throughout the province with $16 million in equipment purchased for WorldSkills Calgary 2009. 

Alberta House

Alberta House was an interactive exhibit showcasing skills, trades and technology opportunities in Alberta during WorldSkills Calgary 2009. Themed displays, demonstrations and interactive resources showcased Alberta’s key strengths – learning, working, innovating, living and visiting.

Innovators and post-secondary graduates were available throughout each day to answer questions. Innovators presented their inventions up to twice daily and performers were scheduled four times a day. 

The Royal Alberta Museum presented the technical aspects of fossil skeletal reconstruction and the Royal Tyrrell Museum demonstrated how to assemble a mounted cast of a small dinosaur.

On May 26, Premier Ed Stelmach announced $24 million, to date, in funding to help organize and stage the competition, and $1.7 million in financial support to help school authorities (public, separate, Francophone and charter schools) transport Grade 9 and 10 students and their supervisors to the competition.

On November 4th, 2008 Manmeet Bhullar, Parliamentary Assistant, Alberta Advanced Education and Technology invited Alberta members of WorldSkills Team Canada to visit the Alberta Legislature.
