The committee was created in 2008 and derives its authority from Section 107.1 of the Post-Secondary Learning Act. It meets several times a year.

eCampusAlberta
eCampusAlberta is a partnership of 15 Alberta publicly-funded colleges and technical institutes. It facilitates increased access to high quality online learning opportunities. The partnership allows Alberta students living anywhere in the province to receive post-secondary education from any of the partnership’s member institutions. Students can use the eCampusAlberta website to learn about and register in courses and programs and to choose their lead and partner institutions.
The lead institution develops and delivers courses and programs and grants credits. The partner institution, which is the closest physical campus to the student’s residence, allows students to use its library facilities and to benefit from other student services, such as exam supervision. Member institutions list their online courses and programs on the eCampusAlberta website.
Participating students may study exclusively online or may take a distance delivered course to complete requirements for a classroom based program they are already attending.

The partners provide facilities, learning technologies and support services such as on-site facilitators to over 85 online learning sites called Community Access Points (CAP sites). At CAP sites, students can take courses and programs offered by participating institutions. They can also receive technical and learning support services at the sites to build readiness and develop skills for learning.
